"Follow your passion and you'll always find success …" is about the biggest heap of bunkum I've ever heard.
First of all, most people wouldn't know passion if it hit them squarely between the eyes.
Better path: Find your purpose.
Don't expect finding your purpose to be easy. There aren't many stories where that happens.
Finding your purpose will be difficult and it will be worth it.
Having trouble figuring out what your purpose might be? Ask yourself, "What is my pain?"
If you've found your purpose, does it deplete you or does it energize you? Are you giving energy or is energy taken away from you?
Your purpose or your passion does not have to define you or your career.
It is okay to "figure these things out," but time is running out.
Stop delaying. Stop waiting.
Figuring out what you don't want to do is a good first step.
Do it. Now.
As always,
Brian
P.S. – Though I plan to email throughout the week and the weekend, I understand these things can get lost in the shuffle.
In the next week or two, you are going to be getting a lot of emails from all sorts of people. Many of whom you haven't the foggiest idea about. Last Thanksgivingtime, my inbox was assaulted with offers of Black Friday this, Cyber Monday that, and all sorts of sales from people I hear from exactly once a year.
This bothered me. Quite a bit.
So much so that I took a long time to re-evaluate a lot of the things I was doing. E-mail was near the top of that list. I stopped writing for a while … and not just emails, nearly everything.
Taking some of my own advice, though, I started focusing on what I can control, not what I can't. For instance, there is no way for me to change the predatory masses of online marketers who show up once a year to flood inboxes and hope you buy whatever gadget or course or whatever else they have to offer.
I can't change those people. I wish they were a bit more sensible, but, alas, they are not.
I can't control the crappy email writing and sending of others, but I can adjust my time and my schedule to reading when I am ready and available.
So, that's what I do. Most emails, I tend to "batch read."
So, if it seems like I send a lot of emails, you're probably right. I don't expect everyone to read every word of every email. Even I can't do that with my favorites who write to me every day.
Plus, my purpose is not to sell you on things every day. Matter of fact, even though I usually have an offer of some sort every day, the vast majority of people won't qualify for one thing or another.
There will be products or programs that you will be ready for … eventually. My purpose is to be in your inbox enough so that when you are ready, you know who to trust.
So, I'll be writing. I may even have a deal or two up my sleeve.
Whatever happens in the next few days, Happy Thanksgiving. See you on the other side.
