Subject: Parents just don't understand

Obsessiveness for practice & preparation

The Fresh Prince was the king of the airwaves for a while there in the 1990s. Tons of radio airplay and a hit sitcom.

Most of us who were around back then can't say that he was a particularly good actor or that his singing or rapping skills were among the best in the business. He even admitted as much.

"I always considered myself to be just average in talent, and what I have is a ridiculous, insane obsessiveness for practice and preparation."

All the best ones have that obsession. Of course The Fresh Prince became massively successful.

He was one of the most billable stars of the era, better known to audiences as Will Smith, the action and sometime rom-com movie star. Fun guy. Fun movies.

Odd personal life, however.

He got involved with a fellow movie star and arguably a legit crazy woman, started what looked to be an All-American family for a while, but fast-forward a few decades and Smith went and slapped Chris Rock across the face during the 2022 Oscars. Smith apparently took offense to a joke about his nutter of a wife.

Either way, Will Smith's own determination and mentality as a younger man was the key in his climb to fame and success. It should be a lesson for everyone.

"I know how to learn anything I want to learn. I absolutely know that I can learn how to fly the space shuttle because someone else knows how to fly it and they put it in a book.

Give me the book, and I don’t need somebody to stand up in front of the class to teach me. I know I can do it."

No wonder Smith has been a top star for decades. It's all about attitude. And he's got the right one … at least professionally.

As always,

Brian

P.S. – I've witnessed some remarkable changes in attitude over this summer within the folks in our Inner Sphere program. We're winding down our first 14-week session in O'Leary's Inner Sphere later this week.
