Sometimes with the podcast, I like to tackle what I call “The Daily 3.”
Three things that I’ve been thinking about over the course of the day or the week that have helped me in some way.
A shift in thinking.
I’ve been busy the last few days and haven’t had enough time in my day to get a podcast done, but I have a few spare moments this afternoon before things start picking up once again to hammer out an email for you.
Today's 3, in no particular order...
1. If you want to think clearly … Slow Down!
The concept is simple, but we often try and cram too many things into our day or our lives.
No doubt about it, humans are capable of “unhuman” things and remarkable productivity, but I often compare it to baseball.
Imagine trying to hit a 95 MPH fastball. Somewhat paradoxically, you don’t speed everything up to hit it, you slow things down.
The best hitters let the game come to them. They slow everything down so that they can react quickly when and if that heater comes in the zone. Then everything is executed super-fast.
So, slow it down. Take a walk perhaps.
My 6-year-old and I do “three deep breaths” when things start moving too fast for either of us. It helps.
2. You have already survived 100% of your “bad days.”
They’ll come again. You’ll get by. Hopefully thrive.
The end of the world might be terrible. It might not be. We’re not there yet.
3. Just Start.
This is a motto or mantra of mine: It is worth “just starting.”
However, most people have a fear of starting something new. The fear is entirely reasonable and rational.
Because … whether we articulate it or not—or have even thought about it—when you start something new, that first step is usually the hardest one.
I kind of like swimming, but I hate—hate, hate, hate, hate—getting into the pool. My solution: jump in.
After that, it is usually fine.
And so it goes with life.
And, one of the best things in life is pit-roasted barbecued meats. Often hard to take the first step or “justify” spending money on such a delicious extravagance, but our friends at Southside Market & Barbecue make it quite easy for you.
Did I mention delicious?
