Recently, I had a chat with one of our good folks—a fellow who is up to speed on all our emails and podcasts. He comments (and questions) regularly around here. Nonetheless, still a friend.
“So, are we going to get a barrage of emails from you any time soon?” he asked.
I think he thought I would agree to back off (just a little), but I know he can’t get enough of the podcasts and emails. “Always. Always barrages! Some campaigns just a little bit lighter than others.”
I like writing, I like telling stories, and I like letting the folks out there know about good products and services. So, I am here to stay…until I sing amongst the choir invisible.
Here’s the secret (other than “the secret is that there are no secrets), however:
Not everyone reads each email and not everyone listens to every podcast.
But as I told another one of our folks the other day,
“Really?”
Yes really. We don’t have the time. None of us do.
Occasionally, I go back and look through some of the stats. Often, I’ll notice a very disengaged reader of my daily emails. Imagine my surprise when one of those email addresses is my own.
I’m on several email lists myself. For one of my absolute favorite writers, I wait until 10 or 20 emails build up. Then I read them all and take notes. I get ideas.
No way I could get the same value out of his emails if I opened them one per day and perused them as if they were “just another email.”
Point being: we are here on a consistent basis. Sometimes it is a podcast, sometimes an email, oftentimes both.
Consistency.
Our subject matter may change, but the basic messaging doesn’t really vary too much.
As someone put it to me a while back:
Baseball, History, Buchanan
Not the entire “niche” we’re in, but a good part of it.
We’re going to be here. Listen or read at your leisure. Though, I firmly expect that the more you think about the ideas we talk about—especially on The Brian D. O’Leary Show—the more you will agree.
Granted, this is dangerous for a lot of people out there. I get it.
Ultimately, though, with what we do and what we say, we’re in the business of restoring, building, and promoting a more robust and serious culture.
It ain’t easy. Nothing is.
But if you’re feeling salty, O’Leary and Company is your “tequila.”
Are you an ambitious and looking to carve a path in the densest of jungles? Looking to take your idea or existing business to the next level? We may be able to help.
Writing emails and podcasting can be pretty easy. Yet, defining “success” in the field can be difficult … and arbitrary. Same goes for most walks of life.
Our perspective is unique.
As always,
Brian
