Believe it or not, my grandmother had problems with arthritis.
I don't believe she ever "cured" this malady--insofar as it never went away completely--but she healed from it remarkably well.
In a roundabout way, it is actually one of the reasons I got into coaching in the first place. When you see loved ones struggling with debilitating pain, it hits home. And, you want to do everything in your power to help them.
In my young age, I was not able to help. Never had the skills. In my middle age, I figured I can now pay it forward in one way or another.
In my grandmother's case, she couldn't straighten her fingers.
Every day she obsessed over what her digits looked like to others.
And, some days she couldn't even hold a pen because of her pain and grip issues.
I hadn't really thought about it that much until I started getting older and started getting old aches and pains that I figured probably shouldn't be there. I write a lot, so I need to use my fingers--to hold my pen and use my keyboard.
As far as arthritis is concerned, I want to hit the snooze alarm on that for the next few decades. I have at least three friends who started using canes--in their 30s!--because of "early onset" arthritic conditions.
My own mother took to calling me the "human popcorn man" for all the clicking and popping my joints do (or did). Fingers, elbows, neck, back, even my nose! I could "crack" nearly everything, even if it wasn't a technical joint.
"Self-chiropractic" is what I call it.
I figured--hopefully not too late--that I have a lot more life to live and that I want to live it in a physical condition that I can control (at least to the best of my ability).
This is why I decided to start researching best health practices … and implementing them.
I don't snap, crackle, and pop like breakfast cereal nearly as much today as I did, even 6 months ago.
But, this was not a result of "getting healthy." The lack of pain and overall health levels was a side-effect of my new approach.
Indeed, after many years and many failures, what I did create was a system to help myself understand why such conditions persist and how to implement solutions to "fix" those problems (even "pre-arthritis").
It applies for most problems.
It helps with feelings of shame.
Gets rid of anxiety (for the most part).
And, it can help you never have to worry about "joint pain" ever again.
Even though she never told me her "secret," I'm pretty sure the system I use is very similar to the one my grandmother used to heal her arthritis.
In honor of my grandmother and my mom (and all the other wonderful mothers and grandmothers in my life), I am going to have a (very) special Mother's Day sale on how to develop and implement my system.
