Everybody wants to be paid, but not everybody wants to do the work.

In my circle of internet marketing, I run into a lot of people who want to get rich just sitting at home. Come up with an idea and, mirabile dictu, a pile of cash emerges on your coffee table.

Rinse. Repeat. Swim in the sea of gold like Scrooge McDuck.

Of course it doesn't work that way. That's not how entrepreneurial economics works. We need folks to help us and support us in our endeavors.

We call these people teammates.

There's a concept called accountability, where one acknowledges and assumes responsibility for his own actions and outcomes. In other words, doing what needs to be done.

I facilitate several "accountability groups" on a weekly basis. Ninety minute meetings. Folks are determined to be accountable to the group in order to accomplish their goals or "imagined future."

Being accountable means that you will take instructions from others. The groups work. People get stuff done because of it.

However, there is a higher standard called responsibility. When one is responsible, he fixes the problems or challenges at hand without being told. This then becomes fertile ground for growth. Especially with teams.

Our Inner Sphere program brings together folks to form "responsibility groups." We are starting another cohort tonight, but we have a waiting list and if you want more information on what we're doing or how we do it, be sure to sign up at:

I facilitate these groups, too, and my motivation is probably best summed up by the Hall of Fame football coach, Bill Walsh:

“The ability to help the people around me self-actualize their goals underlines the single aspect of my abilities and the label that I value most—teacher.”

As always,

Brian
