Subject: defeat fear (with one sentence)

Have you ever found yourself scrolling around the internet, when you’re supposed to be getting something important done?

Checking the news for the last 24 hours?

How about checking your email?

Or maybe even taking a nap rather than making that important call?

Would it surprise you if I told you that what inspires you to do this is the very same thing that makes people hesitate to jump out of the door while skydiving?

Yep.

It’s all the same thing: Fear.

More specifically, Fear of the Unknown.

After all, you know pretty well what you will see if you check your email, or even the news.

Taking a nap’s pretty safe.

But if you contact that high value prospect? Hmm. Will they say yes or no?

Outcome unknown.

Same as jumping out of the plane.

Will you land safely, or not? You can’t know. Not for sure.

And yet, curiously, the ability to forge ahead and take these sorts of “leaps of faith,” are the very things that drive you and your business forward on a daily basis, as opposed to stagnating in the same soup you were in yesterday.

Now, I have to say.

As far as I know, Fear is here to stay.

There's nothing I know of that will vanquish it for good, take it off the face of the Earth, forever.

Right?

However.

There is one thing that you can do, at any given moment, that will take fear out of the equation, for you, and make it disappear, just long enough for you to do whatever it is you need to do, in that given moment.

So...
Here’s your action item for today:

  • When faced with fear, or even finding yourself procrastinating because you’re unsure of the outcome of something (see: “feeling fear”) - follow the steps below. 

  • Think about something you are really grateful for in the moment. Maybe it's someone in your family, or maybe it’s just how the weather could be a lot worse today. Whatever it is, focus all your attention on being grateful for that one thing. If possible, say something out loud about how appreciative you are for that. 

  • You will find your fear abating for about 30 seconds, while you focus on gratitude. This is because fear cannot exist in the same space as gratitude.

  • While your fear is in hiding, take the leap: do that thing you were afraid of,
    while your gratitude is in full force, and before your fear comes out of hiding. By the time it comes back out to haunt you, it will be too late: Mission Accomplished! 
That’s it! Simple as it sounds, I encourage you to give it a go and see how it works.
