I have a question I want you to answer for me today.
Spoiler Alert: This question will seem really simple and “brain dead” - but it’s not ;-)
Here we go.
“What is marketing?”
Okay.
I can already hear you.
“Sheesh, Dan, OF COURSE I know what Marketing is! It’s what I do every day.”
But hold on.
See, what is often thought of as “marketing” is actually something that runs along the lines of “how well do we sell our product?”
But the truth is, what makes or breaks your marketing is actually asking the question:
“How well do I tell our story? How well does our team tell our story?”
Without Story, there is no Marketing.

- Get clear on your Story. This is the “reason why” you do what you do in your company. For example, was your family home destroyed by a tornado, and that’s why you now build the strongest roofing material on the planet? Your Story.
- Now, write up your story in one paragraph. Print it out. Post it up (or send around to your team working virtually). Make sure they know it by heart. Make sure they know they should tell it. Use it. Sell with it.
Many companies don’t ever bother to do this.
They are the ones we forget about.
The ones who do, last.
